Multivitamins for during and after pregnancy
For more information about Pregnancy Multivitamins, please visit our pregnancy information page, where you can read more about the recommended dosages of vitamins and minerals by nutritional authorities. Based on these recommendations, we particularly recommend the Prenatal from Vitaminhealth (2 per day), the Everyday Mama Tablets from Vitals (1 per day), the Prena Fem from Orthica (2 per day), and the 106 Multi Pregnancy from AOV (2 per day). All of these contain at least 15 mg of iron and 10 mcg of vitamin D. Additionally, the last three all contain the recommended 150 mcg of iodine, an important mineral. The Everyday Mama even provides 28 mg of iron, 25 mcg of vitamin D, and 150 mcg of iodine.
Below you will find an overview of all our pregnancy multivitamins. These are also excellent to use before and after pregnancy. Other supplements to prepare for pregnancy can be found on the collection page Fertility. Pregnancy multivitamins can be effectively combined with fish oil or supplements based on omega-3 fatty acid DHA.
More information about the pregnancy multivitamins
During pregnancy, your body and that of your child require a daily supply of the right nutrients. A pregnancy multivitamin can help prevent you or your child from developing a deficiency of any of these important substances.
The well-known Prenatal Nutrients from Solgar is originally a 4-per-day multivitamin and provides 28 mg of iron, 10 mcg of vitamin D, and 150 mcg of iodine at that dosage. However, in the Netherlands, this multivitamin is sold as a 2-per-day multivitamin, which provides relatively low dosages of vitamin D and iodine. Those who can afford it can safely take 3 to 4 tablets of this multivitamin per day. The reason this is originally a 4-per-day multivitamin relates to the amounts of calcium and magnesium in the tablets (1304 mg and 454 mg per 4 tablets), two minerals that take up a lot of space. In comparison, the Everyday Mama provides only 30 mg of calcium and 30 mg of magnesium. This allows the other nutrients to be well dosed in one tablet. The Prena Fem from Orthica has not contained any calcium or magnesium at all since the end of 2015, but it is still a 2-per-day formula.
