NZVT

NZVT is the Dutch Assurance System for Sports Supplementation. The system allows manufacturers of dietary supplements to have their products tested for a fee. The products are checked, per batch, by a designated laboratory for prohibited substances. Random additional checks are conducted through a verification system. When a product/batch is found to be 'clean', it is entered into the database.

Is this necessary?

The use of dietary supplements is widespread in sports. Various studies have shown that some dietary supplements may contain banned substances. However, this is not always clearly stated on the label. The use of dietary supplements can pose a risk for elite athletes, as it may lead to a positive result in doping tests. To minimise the risks of an unintended positive doping test and to provide more clarity to (elite) athletes and their coaches regarding the topic of "dietary supplements and doping", the Dutch Assurance System for Sports Supplementation has been established.

What is being tested?

The production of the supplements that are part of the NZVT takes place according to enhanced quality requirements aimed at doping tests as they occur in sports (in addition to the requirements that apply to all food products in the Netherlands). This is the HACCP-Plus/NZVT system. Furthermore, the produced dietary supplements have a clear, sports-friendly, ingredient declaration. This means that all ingredients are labelled with comprehensible terms. Subsequently, the products are tested for the presence of more than 160 banned substances. Not all substances on the doping list are tested for, as there are no valid reasons to assume that all these substances may inadvertently occur in dietary supplements.

Own brand products from Vitaminstore

Dietary supplements are produced in "charges" or "batches". Each batch is assigned a code. Manufacturers place the batch code on the labels in various ways, alongside the expiry date. So please pay attention: when a statement is made about the quality of a specific product, that statement applies only to that batch! Some manufacturers do not have every batch tested, so be aware of this.

Vitaminstore has entered into an agreement with the NPN (industry association for manufacturers, raw material suppliers, wholesalers, importers, and distributors of dietary supplements) for NZVT. This means that all batches of Vitaminstore's own brand products (which are registered with the NPN and listed below) are tested. When manufacturers have all batches tested, they are allowed to place the NZVT logo on the labels. This logo can also be found on our product labels.

Where can I find the batch numbers of tested products?

All tested products can be found on the website of the doping authority in the NZVT database, as well as via the Dopingwaaier App.

Please note: the NZVT has been established to provide athletes with additional information about doping-related risks, but it does not assume any responsibilities. The ultimate responsibility for taking supplements and for the possible presence of banned substances in the body always rests entirely with the athlete themselves.
